I don't see a locals vs. the rest attitude, personally.  I love seeing my friends who come in from out of town.  No one I know here has a bad attitude about folks coming from away.  No one.  My guess is that this is more perception than reality.

Regarding the key issue, you wrote:

Don't mean to be picky here, but something was tried for THREE YEARS RUNNING with the $5 drop box action, including signs and messages to that effect, etc.  It didn't work.  It's too bad.  No one's happy that didn't work.  There were then and still are other options (Big Hungry Rd., Tuxedo, etc.).

And again, sorry to be direct, but you easily could have bought a key yourself and then got friends to chip in for it and/or rented it out yourself.  This would have been easier for you than grousing that no one had done it for you already.
