I'm sorry, but I do take comments such as yours to mean that you would prefer to not have outsiders on the Green. I live in Chicago. I boat the Green enough to justify purchasing a key from Woody, which I have done. When you make remarks stating that it is dangerous to have too many people in certain eddies, part of me agrees. But if you think the solution is to keep the releases last minute to preclude out of towners, I have a different idea for you. If you live nearby and see that the lot is jammed, come back another day. It will run again soon, and you have that option. I have driven from Chicago and been skunked both days, and had to drive home. 1300 miles round trip, on more than one occasion, for a nice hike and some good BBQ. We come down, spend money on gas, money on food, camping, and occasionaly a motel. Beers at Asheville Pizza. BBQ in Saluda. While we are there, we invite people to come see our little slice of the whitewater world, Michigan's U.P., and offer to show folks down the Silver, the Black and to see if anyone will second my run of Eagle River Falls. People at the Upper Yough, the Russell Fork, the Plateau, The Blackwater and all over Colorado don't worry about weekend crowding in thier backyard. They CAN come back on Tuesday, when it's less crowded if they like. Don't try to hoard it. |
