news Green River Recreational Flows........................ New

Just wanted to get some thoughts on the request for a published schedule of releases for the Green River, NC. Go to www.tryondailybulletin.com and you can read how this got initiated. Some thoughts from several local paddlers.

1.) Will the business needs ($) of Saluda be the only consideration for the schedule of releases?
  - If so, than all locals that use the river will be subjected to significantly increased flows in traffic. Kayakers, fisherman, tubers and any other users would than be able to access release schdules ahead of time, allowing them to plan way ahead. Do local fisherman favor this? Showing up to fish your favorite spot with 50 other people?

2.) Are the fisherman really are friends here? They definately do not want 100% releases (don't even think about 200%) I don't know the answer to this, but our relationship record is not strong. Headwaters of Chattooga??? Salmon River in NY, etc.

3.) Business needs are vastly different than private needs. The amount of water that you have on any given day, in Lake Summit, can be stretched at 60% further than 100%.

I just wanted to bring to light what is going on for the Green River users and get some opinions. I think that change will always take place but I also want to make sure that the people that are asking for the change understand the pandoras box that could be opened here. It could easily turn out that 60% becomes the most common release. This would really suck.

I am in no way saying that any of this is actually going to take place, I just know that the ball is rolling. Again, you can see it in the headline section of the Tryon Bulletin.
