There are just 3 companies who engineer whitewater parks.
Recreational Engineering and Planning; REP has built the most parks in the country. Gary Lacy started the whole WW Park craze. Their parks are everywhere but you generally hear complaints that they are low quality and shallow holes. I do not know of any waves they have created, just holes. I have heard their firm has a lack of engineering and seem to do parks by feel. Their resume is definitely the longest for parks built. www.wwparks.com
McLaughlin Engineering; McLaughlin built the Atlanta Olympic course and the Wisp one in Maryland. They seem like a very large company that does very in-depth engineering they also do Wastewater Treatment Plants and such. They market aggressively with Risa Shimoda from AW but have not done any parks on natural rivers like yours seems to be. They have never really done an in-stream park as far as I can tell. http://www.mr-ltd.com/
RiverRestoration/Hydraulic Design Group; This is the company Nick Turner is affiliated with. Their features have been highly praised as the highest quality wave and competition features. Their resume does not seem huge to me as they just started a couple of years ago, It looks like a lot of people are having parks designed by them, but only a few have been built as they are new. They seem to do a very high level of engineering as well. can only find this: nick@riverrestoration.org
I think all 3 have advantages and disadvantages, just depends what you are looking for. |
