How do you build a whitewater feature?
I am working to get a whitewater park built in Bardstown, KY. City officials want to see the park happen and have agreed make the necessary alterations to a rubble dam on the Beech Fork of the Salt River in Bardstown to make it safer and to create a whitewater play feature for paddlers.
Conditions are very conducive to creating a play hole at this site. There are good flows nearly year round, a drop of 5 feet and plenty of rocks and boulders to use that have existed at the site since 1928 when they were first put there.
The pool above the rubble dam must be maintained as the city pumps water from this source for the local water supply.
It has been discussed to put the feature in the middle of the river to help stop erosion of the banks.
So, with 5 ft of drop, an average annual flow of 909cfs and all the rocks needed to form the feature, how does one create a whitewater play spot?
Here are pictures of the site, more information about the project and information about building whitewater features that I have obtained so far.
Thanks,
