It's a nice compliment to the Maj's Journals.  

I've never read "Down the Great Unknown," (Edward Dolnick) but it's not been well recommended by friends.


Also worth reading, though not about the Powell Expeditions, is a book by Richard E Westwood titiled "Rough Water Man: Ewyene Blake's Colorado River Expeditions."
