People are putting way too much hype on "THE GREEN" and "GORILLA"
I personally have walked it a bunch because of that reason. Everyone is making it seem like a test...to see if you are worthy. Like there are boaters who run Gorilla and those who do not. After all these posts, I don't know what is worse, the fear of crashing at Gorilla, or having people know about it afterwards and deciding that based on that one incident, I have no business going to any other creeks. Totally voiding the fact that I have successfully run other 5.2 rapids in the past. After 10 years (maybe 20+ runs) of paddling 'Green Lite', that is my take on it.
It feels like the local Asheville crowd is trying to judge how good the rest of us are by how well we do on a river that they have the luxury of having every rock memorized in.
I wish I had it in my backyard, but I play more than creek...based on geographics more than choice. But I love all boating. Even when I'm scared its fun.
