 What is the fascination with having the latest boat model? New

My personal preference is to find a boat that I like, that works well for what I need/want, and paddle that boat until I need another one.
I do not understand the people who "must have" the newest boat on the market or why they must have it.
Is it just because you have the $$ and can? or because there is something really special about each new boat that comes out?
I do like to paddle different boats from time to time, but in that case, I usually just borrow one.
I'm the same way with cars, I get one and keep it until I need another one.
