It's true that the water from WWTPs is relatively clean. They take lots of precautions to get all the dissolved solids out and make sure it's disinfected. They do a good job of removing shit from the water.

BUT they don't get everything. Most WWTPs can't get chemical contaminants out. This can be a problem for things like pharmaceuticals that can have physiological and environmental effects even at extremely low concentrations.
