Breaking the shaft takes away what little air the paddle already had to keep it floating; and those things barely float when they are in tact. One of the foam core paddles would probably float, but the Powerhouse would probably not float on the surface.

Doesn't mean it didn't get swept downstream though, its not heavy and the blade is a big surface to catch water
