note Locust info
oldschool-kayak
My guess is the Locust will be about 4 to 4.6 on Griday. At that level it is medium pushy in spots. Call it Class 3 maybe class 3 plus in a couple of spots. It will be up in the trees and out of the banks in a few spots but nothing really bad. Just stay in your boat, swimmers at that level can have a long not so much fun swim with a few trees to dodge to find a safe eddy.

Look at Neely Maps, they do a pretty good job of describing the rapids. House Rock, no big deal start left or center and finish right. Tilt A Whirl, nice waves in a left hand bend, Rapid above Double Trouble some call is S Turn has a standing tree left center in the current, just read and run.

Double Trouble will be pushing along, scout it from the Island in the middle, sneak on the left of the island, set ropes to keep swimmers on the right side of the island from running the first and second drop. Stay away from the rock on the right bank at the bottom of the first drop, slightly undercut and sometimes has logs sticking out in the current. Run the second drop to the left of the boulder in the obvious channel and stay away from the seive mess on the right side of the big rock in the second drop.

Below that, read and run down to the Falls, You can't use Swann Bridge as a take out now due to construction, you must paddle down to Hwy 160. Powell Falls, you should be able to land on the island in the middle, there won't be a lot island left on land with a purpose as the rock will be slippery and fast and sweeping current to the right toward the falls. The falls is really pretty simple, start center or left center and finish left center, don't get pushed far right, bumpy ride at the bottom far right.

The Ender Hole a mile or so downstream at Skirum Bluff will probably be washed out at that level. I'm not a playboater so not sure about what it's like at that level.

Good chance you will have some locals paddlers there at Hwy 160 or the put in. You will need a little guidance to put in down the culvert between the bridges and avoid the fenced off area at the old put in, land owner relations have taken a downturn in the past year or so. Parking at 160 is a little interesting, you may need to park further up the hill, don't park anywhere there are no parking signs,

Good luck and have fun, good run at a good level.
