Maybe I am just not as good a paddler as those that feel

"flutter" but I have never felt any type of "flutter" myself. I use door edging on my AT, it doesn't seem to affect the performance at all. Now I am not a class V boater. The most difficult stuff I am paddling is class IV. I think "performance" is related to your paddle technique mostly.

I have seen a little bit of a performance issue using the edging when timing my speed on a SUP race board with GPS so I don't use it then. But, I am not bashing that paddle into rocks so it really isn't needed.

Unless you are racing or a competitive playboater I don't really think it matters (not really sure about the playboating part). If you are just a weekend paddler I think you will extend your paddle life and will not be able to notice the difference.

Basically, try it and see. You can get a roll at an auto supply store for about $15. If you feel that "flutter" then take it off.

For those that say paddle smarter I am not sure how you keep from hitting some rocks if you are creeking in the SE????? But I am not that smart.
