Women do need to remember they are paddling for two.   I have seen some highly skilled women paddling while pregnant and it made me very uncomfortable to watch.  One of the paddlers did swim.  She was about 5 months pregnant.  It was whitewater and she did get to shore quickly. But it still scared everybody because she was pregnant.  Dave was just offering some safety advice, which I think this forum is good at disseminating.
