I'm 6' 2'' 175ish with a 33 waist.  I had the same problems getting the hip pads just right but I am good to go now.  If your handy with making hip pads you will be alright.  

I made my hip pads paper thin down to the base of the seat to about half way up the seat.  Then taper then up to about an inch thick going from the middle of the seat all they way to the cockpit rim.  I used blocks of uncut foam that way I could get them the full length to the cock pit rim.

I should be at the upper yo on friday at I can show you or send me an email and I will try to send some pics of mine.  These were the hardest of hip pads I had to make but now they are set I am real happy with the boat.
